Less than 2 months til my due date. AHHH!
Ok, it's not that bad. I've been slowly and systematically getting things ready. The nice thing about having 3 kiddos so close is that I don't have to get a whole lot of stuff for this kiddo. However, I can't say we have come to realize the phrase "gently used."
We did have to replace a few things: the canopy to the car seat and, subsequently, we opted to buy a matching car seat pad because a spare never hurts, new seat liners and pads for the high chair, new nursing covers, new pouch slings, new bottles. Some friends gave us a new baby swing that, unbeknownst to them, was missing an arm. We got that part replaced.
I should be honest and clarify, the new nursing covers and slings are not actually in existence yet. I bought the fabric and threads and notions to get them made. I've even got some of the fabric cut. Maybe this weekend I'll be able to get some of the stuff put together. My cousin and his wife are expecting their first child a few weeks after I'm due so I have a couple extra covers to sew. I'm not an accomplished sewer by any stretch of the imagination. I am enjoying learning about it and I can at least handle a few utilitarian projects.
We got J and C moved into their "big kid" room and after a few days, I got the crib/toddler bed put away and then got the cradle out. Clothes have been moved into the closet for the first couple sizes.
All of this getting ready is definitely stirring up memories of getting ready for J and C. I remember registering for baby things before J was born and spending hours researching the best bottles for reducing colic and would avoid causing the dreaded "nipple confusion." My mom wisely told me to just get a few simple bottles, and don't worry about getting the smaller ones. If the simple ones didn't work, we could try other styles and what would be the point of using smaller 4 oz bottles when you could just as easily mix 4 oz in an 8 oz bottle. I wish I had listened! I insisted on registering for what was sure to be the right types of bottles. Well, they came with so many dang parts and they leaked everywhere and stuff was forever getting lost down the garbage disposal. On top of that, since we had so many, we would end up with all the bottle bits living in the drying rack. And once the kids weren't using the smaller 4 oz bottles anymore, we had to give up valuable storage space to house them. My mom laughed at how many bottles we had for primarily breastfed babies! I used them with both kids, but after a couple years, I really wasn't completely confident that the plastics weren't breaking down so we threw them out. My parents kindly sent a small supply, much like my mom originally suggested, as a Christmas present for V. They're awesome like that!
It is good to be reminded of lessons in humility, even if the memories of my stubbornness make me blush a little. It's good to grow.
